CSA 9.1-2009 Manually Operated Gas Valves For Appliances, Appliance Connector Valves And Hose End Valves. Part IV: Definitions GAS WAY. The main opening in a manually-operated gas valve through which gas flows. MANIFOLD, GAS. The conduit of an appliance which supplies gas to the individual burners. NON-DISPLACEABLE VALVE MEMBER. A valve member which cannot be moved from its seat by a force applied to the handle or force applied by a plane surface to any exterior portion of the valve. ORIFICE. The opening in an orifice cap, orifice spud or other device whereby the flow of gas is limited and through which the gas is discharged. ORIFICE CAP (HOOD). A movable fitting having an orifice which permits adjustment of the flow of gas by changing its position with respect to a fixed needle or other device. ORIFICE SPUD. A removable plug or cap containing the orifice which permits adjustment of the flow of gas either by substitution of a spud with a different sized orifice or by motion of a needle with respect to it. PILOT SHUT-OFF DEVICE. A device capable of shutting off the pilot gas that is not intended for frequent usage. It may also be capable of adjusting pilot gas flow. PLUG. The tapered valve member of a manually-operated gas valve containing one or more gas flow openings. TOOLS, SPECIAL. Those tools that are not available on the open retail market. VALVE MEMBER. That part of a gas valve rotating within or moving with respect to the valve body which by its position with respect to the valve body, controls the flow of gas. VALVE BODY. That part of a manually-operated gas valve containing, enclosing or carrying the valve member known as the plug, poppet, disc, or other movable sealing member. VALVE, LATCHING TYPE. manual gas valve which requires at least two separate actions or movements to turn on the valve, as for example, pushing in on the valve handle to “unlatch” the valve before the valve handle can be rotated to turn on the gas. VALVE, MANUALLY OPERATED GAS. A valve that permits control of the flow of gas from an “off” to an “on” position by means of hand operations (manual control). Some specific types are: 1.
