NFPA 1144-2018 Standard for Reducing Structure Ignition Hazards from Wildland Fire. 5.1 Construction in Wildland Areas. 5.1.1 General. 5.1.1.1 All new construction in wildland/urban interface areas shall be designed, located, and constructed to comply with this standard, NFPA 1141, and the local building code. 5.1.1.2 In case of conficts among this standard, NFPA 1141, and the local building code, the more stringent fre protection requirements shall be utilized to mitigate the ignition potential and combustibility of structures exposed to potential wildland fre. 5.1.2 Construction Documents. The AHJ shall be provided with plans and specifcations for each project regulated by this standard. 5.1.2.1 Construction documents shall clearly indicate the methods, materials, and processes employed to meet the requirements of this standard and the location of each struc‐ ture or feature drawn to scale. 5.1.2.2 Construction documents shall include a vicinity map that provides details regarding the vicinity within 300 ft (91 m) of property lines, including other structures, slope, vegetation, fuel breaks, water supply systems, and access roads. 5.1.3 Location. 5.1.3.1* Separation distances between primary and accessory structures on each lot and structures on adjacent lots shall not be less than 30 ft (9 m). 5.1.3.2* Buildings located closer than 30 ft (9 m) to a vegeta‐ ted slope shall require special mitigation measures as deter‐ mined by the AHJ. 5.2.2.1 Material shall be tested on all sides with the extended ASTM E84, Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteris‐ tics of Building Materials (UL 723, Standard for Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials), test. Panel products shall be permitted to test only the front and back faces and shall be tested with a ripped or cut longitudinal gap of 1 ∕ 8 in. (3.2 mm). Materials that, when tested in accordance with the test procedures set forth in ASTM E84 or UL 723 for a test period of 30 minutes, or with ASTM E2768, Standard Test Method for Extended Duration Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials (30 min Tunnel Test), shall comply with 5.2.2.2 through 5.2.2.5. N 5.2.2.2 Flame Spread. Material shall exhibit a fame spread index not exceeding 25 and shall not show evidence of progres‐ sive combustion following the extended 30-minute test. N 5.2.2.3 Flame Front. Material shall exhibit a fame front that does not progress more than 10 1 ∕ 2 ft (3.2 m) beyond the center‐ line of the burner at any time during...
