NFPA 1994-2001 Standard on Protective Ensembles for Chemical/Biological Terrorism Incidents. 1.1.4 This standard shall not apply to any protective en- sembles for chemical/biological terrorism incidents manufac- tured in accordance with other specifications or standards of other organizations. 1.1.5 This standard shall not establish requirements for res- piratory protection for chemial/biological terrorism inci- dents. Appropriate respiratory protection for the specific chemical/biological exposure is a crtical part of overall pro- tection and shall be specified and provided by the authority having jurisdiction. 1.1.6* This standard shall not establish requirements for any fire-fighting applications or hazardous materials emergencies involving radiological, liquefied gas, or cryogenic liquid haz- ards; or against explosive atmospheres. 1.1.7 This standard shall not apply to use requirements for protective ensembles for chemicalbiological terrorism inci- dents as these requirements are specified in NFPA 1500, Stan- dard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program. 1.1.8* Chemical/biological ensembles and ensemble ele- ments that are certified as compliant with NFPA 1994 shall be permitted also to be certified to NFPA standards for hazardous materials emergencies protective ensembles and protective clothing or NFPAstandards for emergency medical operations protective clothing. 1.1.9 The requirements of this standard shall not apply to accessories that might be attached to any ensemble or to any element of an ensemble, unless speifially addressed herein. 1.1.10 Nothing herein shall restrict any jurisdiction or manu- facturer from exceeding these minimum requirements. 1.2 Purpose. 1.2.1*The purpose of this standard shall be to establish mini- mum levels of protection for fire and emergency services per- sonnel assigned to chemical/biological terrorism agents in- cluding dual-use industrial chemicals, chemical terrorism agents, or biological terrorism agents. 2.1.2.1 ANSI Publications.
