UL 2992:2018-11 Environmental Claim V alidation Procedure (ECVP) for Determination and Verification of Chemical Emissions from Water Activated Flameless Heat Packets. 1.1 This procedure provides a methodology for determination and verification of chemical emissions from indoor use flameless heat packet products when they activate with water. 1.2 Chemical substances emitted from flameless heat packet products during exothermic reaction have potential risks to indoor air quality and human health. 2 Scope 2.1 This procedure is divided into three sections: the first is focused on the measurement and determination of the target chemical substances in emission test chamber, the second estimates the room concentration by calculating the emission rate within the specified use conditions, and the third defines the allowable concentration for target chemicals for obtaining UL Environmental Claim Validation badge. A preliminary research is required to study the mechanism of energy generating reaction and confirm no other hazardous gases as by-products released during the use phase. 2.2 The levels of emissions are determined by measuring the airborne concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and carbonyl compounds in a dynamic emission test chamber under specified test conditions. The observed chamber concentrations are then converted by a mathematical calculation to emission rates, a product specific variable, and then modeled to obtain room concentration estimates. 2.3 This procedure applies to water activated flameless heat packet products, which are typically used outdoors and indoors in a tray for temporary heating of prepared foods. This method establishes the procedures for emission testing and analysis. indoor air concentration modeling and associated documentation requirements. The scope of this procedure includes, but is not limited to, products contain powered magnesium metal, calcium oxide. and/or other chemicals. 3 Undated References 3.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this procedure shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.UL 2992 pdf download.
